There is no other way around saying it but that the Xbox One has been a complete failure in Japan, much like previous Xbox consoles in the country. Japan has been a very handheld minded market for awhile now, but Microsoft is hoping they can drum some increased sales with the announcement of a price cut.
As announced at the Xbox Event in Tokyo, and translated by a poster on NeoGAF, the Xbox One will be getting a price cut of 5000 yen starting on October 1. However, this cut will not be permanent, but rather a temporary one through the end of the year.
This sounds almost exactly like what the US got last year, where a temporary cut was announced, which reverted back for only week before it was made permanent.
While this is great to see for those that may want to get a Xbox One in Japan, I doubt it will have a major impact on sales. It is still worthwhile though, as it shows that Microsoft is not giving up on the Japanese market, which many companies would have done by now, after the first year sales numbers were released that were abysmal.
