We recently got the shocking announcement that Microsoft has decided to cancel Fable Legends and shut down developer Lionhead Studios, effectively ending the Fable series for good. However, those who have been taking part in the Fable Legends beta will be able to play it for a while longer.
Following the cancellation announcement, a different announcement was made regarding the status of the ongoing beta. It was revealed that the beta will continue for about another month, allowing those who are a part of it to continue playing until April 13th at 3 PM GMT. After that, Fable Legends and the Fable series as we know it is over.
Players who have purchased gold within the Fable Legends beta will be able to get a refund, and the option to purchase gold has been removed from the game since the cancellation announcement. Emails will be going out shortly regarding refunds on gold purchases.
Fable Legends was originally announced in 2014 as an Xbox One exclusive before also being announced for PC and becoming a free-to-play title. Since the very beginning it really didn’t seem to know what it was doing, and with the series decline with each new release it really seemed it was trying to do everything at once out of desperation.
It’s definitely going to be weird not having the Fable series as an active part of the Xbox lineup, but considering it was a series that consistently failed to live up to the hype put on it by creator Peter Molyneux it’s probably best it just bows out now.
