The game Hey! Pikmin comes out on July 28 for the New 3DS and has some differences from other games in the franchise. For one thing, Olimar walks on a 2D plane in this game, as opposed to the 3D planes in other games. Today (June 30), a new trailer for the game, called the “Lift-Off” trailer, revealed some more new mechanics the game introduces.

Like previous games, differently-colored Pikmin can be used for different things. In this game, Red Pikmin are fire-resistant, Blue ones swim better than others and Yellow ones are both resistant to electricity and lighter in weight, so Olimar can throw them farther and higher. Additionally, there are two new Pikmin added to this game. Winged ones can pick Olimar up and fly him around while Rock ones can smash through strong obstacles.

The goal of this game is for Olimar to collect as much Sparklium as possible to help repair his ship. Sparklium is found in various man-made objects that don’t belong in the Pikmin world. For example, Sparklium can be found in batteries, cameras and even NES cartridges. This game will also support amiibos. When an amiibo is used, that amiibo will appear in the game as a statue and contains a lot of Sparklium. Also, a new Pikmin amiibo will have two features: 1. it will make a random amiibo statue appear in the game, and 2. it can be used to call for backup in tough situations. This new amiibo comes out the same day as the game.
