Square Enix has announced that their JRPG Octopath Traveler will be releasing on PC through Steam later this year on June 7 on a blog post that has since been removed. Due to this, it’s possible that the post was made prematurely, however thanks to the power of the internet, the entire post was saved for all of us to read here and now.
“We have some very exciting news for PC gamers. Octopath Traveler is coming to Steam on June 7, 2019! So, yknow, add it to your Wishlist now. The critically-acclaimed RPG has previously only been available on Nintendo Switch, so this will be the first time non-Nintendo owners can experience the game.”
Whether the announcement was preemptive or not, it’s not entirely out of left field for the game to be released for PC. Just last week it was rated on the Korean Games Rating Board with a PC release, and this recent faux pas only reaffirms that we’ll more than likely see the JRPG on a keyboard and mouse very soon. No information was given on the required specs to run it, but since the gameplay is reminiscent of the SNES era RPG’s, it’s a strong possibility that it won’t be very much.
For those that haven’t heard of Octopath Traveler, the game plays very much like a traditional old school RPG from Square’s golden age in the 1990’s. Launching in 2018 exclusively on the Nintendo Switch, fans and critics praised the return of the turn based system as well as the rich story and the beautiful environment. It went onto be nominated for multiple accolades at The Game Awards 2018 including Best Role-Playing Game. If what was said in the deleted post comes to fruition, then PC gamers are in for a real treat on June 7.
