Sonic the Hedgehog Movie Delayed to 2020

Last month, the first official trailer for the upcoming live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie was revealed and many fans were… less than enthusiastic. In fact, fans of the blue blur were so outraged by Sonic’s live-action design that the movie’s direct, Jeff Fowler, stated that his team would be completely remaking the character’s design for the final product.

Of course, a redirect of this scale couldn’t go without consequences, and now we know what they are. Fowler recently announced on Twitter that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie is being delayed. The movie will now come out on February 14, 2020, a few months after its original November 2019 release date. In his tweet, Fowler also used the hashtag #novfxartistswereharmedinthemakingofthismovie. For those having trouble reading that string of letters, it reads, “No VFX artists were harmed in the making of this movie,” seemingly addressing the concern that a complete redesign of Sonic would cause cruel amounts of crunch and overtime for the VFX team who would be responsible for Sonic’s redesign. Hopefully Fowler and Paramount will truly and continually prioritize the wellbeing of their VFX team over the creation of a product of entertainment.

If you’ve somehow yet to see the original Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer, you can watch it below. It has “Gangster’s Paradise” and Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik and everything.
