One of the best parts about the new Call of Duty is that there are still numerous ways to play the game.  While many people are choosing to camp this year, you don’t have to because there are plenty of different ways to customize your loadout to different playstyles.  In this guide we’ll go over some of the different classes that you can make to change up your playstyle from Run and Gun to Camper, Quickscope Sniper to a well-rounded killstreak machine.  While the classes below are what we find that work in Core Game modes and Ground War, mileage may vary depending on personal preference and skill level.

Below you’ll find the best gun loadouts and weapon setups in Modern Warfare:

Run and Gun

If you’re the type of player that likes to be on the move (you are a rarity in this year’s game) you’re going to want to pick your primary weapon as either an SMG or a shotgun.  Within these two weapon types we’ve found the two best guns in each class.

MP5 – SMG

For the SMG the MP5 is the clear winner for a number of reasons.  One of the big reasons that the MP5 are the attachments that it has.  You can slap 10mm ammo into the weapon and increase the Accuracy, Damage, and Range of the weapon which is already one of the best SMGs in these aspects.  Doing so will make the MP5 a viable weapon in close quarters and at range.

  • Ammunition – 10mm ammo
  • Rear grip – Granulated Grip Tape
  • Underbarrel – Merc Foregrip
  • Muzzle – Monolithic Suppressor
  • Perk – Sleight of Hand

725 – Shotgun

If you’re going to roll with a shotgun, the 725 is, and has been broken since the game released.  While this guide has been written in part prior to update 1.07, even after the update the 725 is the clear winner for core game modes.

  • Muzzle – Monolithic Suppressor
  • Tempus 32 Competition
  • Sawed off Stock
  • Steady Grip – FORGE TAC
  • Sleight of Hand

Run and Gun Class Perks

When you’re running and gunning in Modern Warfare your gun attachments/perk is going to be the most important thing in winning gunfights, but your actual perks might be able to help you rack up higher killstreaks.  We like to use Cold Blooded and Ghost to try and stay hidden while behind enemy lines (in their spawn).  With the last perk either Shrapnel for the extra lethal, Battle Hardened, or Spotter.

Mixed Class – All Around

If you want options for the best all-around guns you have plenty.  You can either take one of the well-rounded Assault Rifles which can do well at both long and short range engagements or you can take multiple primaries.  When we want to make sure we’ve got the right tool for the job we run Overkill to take two primary weapons.

Two Primary Weapons

You are going to have to essentially burn one of your perks to get two primary weapons by selecting Overkill as your Perk 1.

MP5 / Oden Combo

The MP5 and Oden are a good combination of weapons to use when you’re expecting a wide variety of different types of gunfights.

One Primary Weapon

If you’re going to rock only a single primary weapon it ought to be an Assault Rifle if you want the best all-around performance.  Depending on how far you’ve progressed into the game, you’ve got a couple of options.  The M4A1 has been declared as the best all-around gun, the good news is that it’s available from the very start.  However, if you’ve put a bit of time into the game you can’t beat the AK-47 when it comes to stopping power.  Once you’ve been able to level up the gun and get some of the good attachments for the AK it could very well supplant the M4 as the best all-around gun in Modern Warfare.

The rest of your loadout is going to come down to your playstyle.  If you’re moving around alot near enemy spawns something like the Cold Blood and Ghost will help you stay off the radar, but if you’re looking to call in big killstreak items you might want to try things like Kill Chain, Hardline, or others.  Mix and match until you find things that suit you.

AK-47 – Assault Rifle

  • Muzzle  – Muzzle Break
  • Optic – Operator Reflex Sight
  • Stock – Skeleton Stock
  • Perk – Slight of Hand
  • Rear Grip – Rubberized Grip Tape

  • Rear Grip – Stippled Grip Tape

Best Sniper Class

modern-warfare-best-sniper

Snipers are once again viable in Modern Warfare if just for some of the massive maps in Ground War mode and the slower paced nature of the game.  There are multiple ways to be a sniper in Modern Warfare.  You can be a sniper who is constantly moving and looking to Quick Scope, or, you can be a camping sniper who is holding down a key spot on the map.

Quickscope Sniper

  • Barrel – 17″ Factory Barrel
  • Rear Grip – Stippled Grip Tape
  • Stock – Singuard Arms Assassin
  • Laser – Tac Laser
  • Perk – Sleight of Hand

You can also choose to adjust your sensitivity in the Vertical and Horizontal Sticks.  If you need an explanation of how and why this will be helpful head to this guide.  To explain briefly, if you change (increase) your horizontal and vertical sensitivity for better drag shots you’ll definitely want to change (increase) your High Zoom sensitivity as well.  This can be done in the options menu. As for perks for the Quickscope Sniper we try to treat it like a run and gun class.   To recap we would use Cold Blooded in Perk Slot 1, Ghost in Slot 2, and then depending on your preference we would use either Shrapnel, Battle Hardened, or Spotter.

Sniping Camper Class

If you’re trying to be a more traditional sniper you’ll want to forgo a lot of the attachments from the quickscope class because they add mobility and aim down sights speed.  Instead you’ll want to focus on things that increase your accuracy and steadiness of shot.

AX50 – Sniper

  • Muzzle – Tac Suppressor
  • Barrel – 32″ Barrel
  • Optic – Variable Zoom  Scope
  • Ammunition – 7 Round Mag
  • Perk – Focus

If you’re camping with the sniper we’ve got one major perk that we like to run because it will definitely help you earn more streaks and since you will be trying to hold an area or specific spot on the map we have a unique field upgrade and lethal that we like to run with this class as well.

Obviously if you’re camping Claymores are going to be a must to keep you safe from enemies seeking revenge.  That said, we’ll also go with Shrapnel in Perk Slot 3 to give an extra Claymore.  In Perk Slot 2 we’ll go with Killchain as that will make it a lot easier to earn the higher kill streaks like an AC-130.  In Perk Slot 1 we always use Cold Blooded to stay off radar when it comes to targeting systems.  To really button things up, we’ll go with the trophy system as our Field Upgrade to repel any projectiles.

There are some alternative camping class set-ups that you can use as well.  Trading out Killchain for Restock will allow you to resupply yourself with Claymores which can allows you to really dig into an area when you’ve got Shrapnel as well.

Best Class to Camp With

best-camping-class-modern-warfare

With the M4A1 being arguably the best gun in the game it’s hard not to recommend it as the defacto camper’s best friend.  This one will allow you to hit you long range shots and win close quarters fights as well.  Coupled with something like Claymores and the aforementioned perks from the sniper camping class you can quite literally roast some marshmallows and kick back and wait for the enemy to come to you.

When you’re all in on camping you absolutely want to bring the claymores, use the restock Perk, and bring the Munitions Box so you never run out of traps for other players to run into.  If you play your cards right with this class you might not even need to fire many shots to get a ton of kills.

  • Optic – Operator Reflex Sight
  • Stock – Singuard Arms Invader
  • Ammunition – 60 Round Mags

  • Restock – Perk Slot 2
  • Shrapnel – Perk Slot 3

And there you have it, those are our best loadouts and created classes for different playstyles in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.  Feel free to mix and match and try new things that might feel better to you, or substitute attachments for others if you haven’t unlocked them yet.  These classes were tested after the release of patch 1.07.
