Wii-U-8

2014 was quite the interesting year, as we had our first full year with the current-gen PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Originally slated to have major releases like Batman: Arkham Knight and The Witcher 3, 2014 ended up not being quite the year we once thought, but it still had its fair share of excellent releases.

As a major sports fanatic, 2014 did offer some really fun games, such as MLB 14: The Show, NBA 2K15, and FIFA 15, but Madden NFL 15 stood tall by actually making defense fun. 2014 also saw a number of remakes and remasters, three of which made my list by providing plenty of reason to visit the games a second time.

Over the last year, Telltale Games has easily become one of my favorite developers with their focus on story and personal choice, so there was no doubt I had to have their two major 2014 titles on my list as well.

However, what really made this year special was Nintendo’s underrated Wii U, which brought us stellar gem after stellar gem in 2014. As a longtime fan of Nintendo’s properties, this made a somewhat lackluster year in gaming really stand out.
