Grand Theft Auto V ($59.99)

PlayStation-4-14

Yes, another remaster has made its way onto the list, but this one is even more justified than the latter. Fans of the Grand Theft Auto franchise have been clamoring for a first-person perspective and Rockstar finally delivered as the game jumped to the current-gen consoles. The game is available on both PS4 and Xbox One, but the definitive version to get is for PlayStation 4, as it is said to run better and even have little things like better foliage. Besides the first-person view, there isn’t a ton new here, but still is worth getting for that feature alone, not to mention the fact that those buying a PlayStation 4 can get the game for free with one of the bundles, along with the previously mentioned The Last of Us Remastered.

Destiny ($59.99)

PlayStation-4-15

The fastest selling new IP of all time following launch, Destiny has been going strong over the last few months since release. The first expansion for the game just released this past week with the Dark Below, which just like the base game, provided extra content for those who buy the game on PlayStation platforms. As a result, it just makes sense to get the game on PlayStation 4 instead of Xbox One if you own the console or are looking to buy one this holiday season, as there is plenty of timed exclusive content through at least next fall. For today, December 16 only, you can actually get Destiny on Amazon for only $29.99. Otherwise, you may be paying closer to full price for it.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor ($59.99)

PlayStation-4-16

Seemingly combining the gameplay of the very popular Assassin’s Creed and Batman: Arkham series, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor surprised many this year and is a strong competitor for many game of the year awards. While a multi-platform game, the game is said to run best on PlayStation 4 with full 1080p, so you can’t go wrong picking this game up, especially if you are a fan of Lord of the Rings. Best Buy even has the game at $10 off through Saturday, December 20, at $49.99

Dragon Age: Inquisition ($59.99)

PlayStation-4-17

Coming off the rather disappointing Dragon Age 2, many were not all that excited for Dragon Age: Inquisition when it released last month. However, with some of the best reception of the year, Dragon Age: Inquisition has revived the series to entirely new levels with the best RPG experience you will find on PlayStation 4 this year easily. Just be forewarned that you will become ingrained with this game and it is a long one. While it may not be quite as stable as on Xbox One, the graphical capabilities are higher and are worth experiencing first hand. Even better, you can find it through this Saturday, December 20, at $49.99 through Best Buy.

Far Cry 4 ($59.99)

PlayStation-4-21

Taking what was great about its predecessor and improving it even further has brought us Far Cry 4. The game is large in scope and is one of the better open-world experiences that you will find in 2014. The PlayStation 4 version gets the nod here due to 1080p, with both console versions maintained a steady frame rate with locked 30fps.

FIFA 15 ($59.99)

PlayStation-4-3

This is one of the few games that will definitely appear on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One lists due to their popularity and not having a ton to differentiate the two from the mass audience of gamers. Technically, the Xbox One version offers more content with special Legends in Ultimate Team mode, but that didn’t stop many gamers moving to PS4 as the main platform for FIFA 15. You can’t go wrong with either version, but if you are a football fan, this is a must own for the console.

Madden NFL 15 ($59.99)

PlayStation-4-2-760x428

Just like FIFA, Madden NFL 15 will definitely appear on both PS4 and Xbox One lists. However, unlike FIFA, there isn’t exclusive Ultimate Team content on Xbox One. Sales show that Madden has been doing much better on PlayStation 4 than it did on PS3, as many gamers have jumped on board from Xbox 360, which was the main platform last-gen. With the NFL playoffs about to start, this is one to get you right in that mood for the final season stretch. Gamestop even has it discounted right now for only $39.99, so it’s hard to resist. There is a Holiday Edition as a digital only download for those that want extra Ultimate Team content as well, though that will cost the full regular price.

The next and final page will cover a few of the best downloadable indie games available on the PS4.
