5. This Is Halloween – The Nightmare Before Christmas
Maybe it’s just the fact that Halloween is later this week, but this song has always been a favorite of mine. From the instrumental version used in Kingdom Hearts to the original with lyrics, this song has been everywhere over the years. The movie had plenty of other stellar songs that would have fit, but nothing can top “This is Halloween.”
Honorable Mentions: “What’s This?,” “Oogie Boogie’s Song,” “Kidnap The Sandy Claws”
4. I’ll Make a Man Out of You – Mulan
In a movie that had a few very inspirational and memorable tracks, “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” was easily one of the most standout in Mulan, alongside “Reflection.” Featuring a chorus that most everyone has memorized has heard a million times, this is one song that had to be on the list.
3. Hakuna Matata – The Lion King
Hakuna Matata, what a wonderful phrase. The line that stuck in everybody that grew up in the 90s’ head. The anthem for the Lion King as a whole and featuring one of the harder choices to narrow down, this had to be the song chosen from this movie. The trio singing really sells this song and displays just the kind of energy and fun that you want in a game like Fantasia: Music Evolved.
Honorable Mentions: “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” “Be Prepared,” “The Circle of Life”
2. Under The Sea – The Little Mermaid
We’ve already had our chance to experience the music of The Little Mermaid in Kingdom Hearts 2, but that doesn’t mean it should be kept out of Fantasia: Music Evolved. One of the most iconic Disney songs, Under the Sea has been everywhere over the years. The song ramps up the fun from the very beginning and never slows down at any point. Who wouldn’t want to conduct an orchestra of sea creatures anyways?
Honorable Mentions: “Part of Your World”
1. A Whole New World – Aladdin
One of the most popular songs of the Disney renaissance of the 1990s, “A Whole New World” was the definition of a masterpiece. Coming from Brad Kane and Lea Solonga in the movie, this track was a duet for the ages that propelled an already genius movie to new heights and would fit perfectly in Fantasia. I still remember even the 16 bit version from the Aladdin game on SNES and would love to have the experience to play it again in a video game.
Honorable Mentions: “Prince Ali,” “One Jump Ahead,” “Friend Like Me”
