Without a doubt, one of the most anticipated games right now is CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077. The company has been hard at work these past few years, in fact, they’ve employed over 400 people in order to ensure that this game will be not only an excellent title, but one that will transcend the popularity so much that it essentially create its own cultural movement. That sounds like it’s a little far fetched, and trust me it is, but this is the level of anticipation that has built up ever since it was revealed at last years E3. The studio knows what they’re doing, and while they haven’t necessarily been forthcoming with all of the information up to this point, all signs point to this years E3, and in just a couple of weeks we will know when the game’s launch date will be.

Why the release date will be revealed at this years E3

Normally, a game of this magnitude would necessitate another couple of years for absolute completion, and this might be true to an extent. However, CD Projekt Red clearly had a head start on it, in fact, they began the initial drafts not long after The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt had released in 2015. It’s safe to say that the studio had a fairly well rounded open-world by the time they surprised revealed it at the end of Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference. Despite this, no actual gameplay was shown, only the immediate teaser trailer. Still, the buzz surrounding the game was at a fever pitch, which has only continued to grow in the past year.

Since then, the company has grown exponentially with the hiring of numerous designers, artists, and audio editors. But they have done much more than that. Little by little they let out some more information about Cyberpunk 2077, and the more we heard, the more excited we became. The icing on the cake is the recent press release that the studio put out. In this statement, it lists all of the things that CD Projekt Red has accomplished in the past year, and that they consider this years E3 to be the most important event in the companies history.

Based on the recent growth of the company, and the game, as well as this new press release, I can safely say that the company will announce the release date for Cyberpunk 2077 at this years E3. It’s more than obvious that the company has been waiting all year for this event. Everything they have done up to this point has been to swell up the hype for the fans, media, and the entertainment business in general with this title. Even if the date is years off, just revealing it at all will send the community into a frenzy, and they recognize this.

The pressure is 100% on the company, and they know it. With all of the recent talk about crunch time hours and toxic environments with game developments, it wouldn’t be such a stretch to hear these kinds of stories come out from their employees anytime soon. While I hope that this isn’t the case, with a title that has this much significance, the consequence’s will be that much greater. Still, this doesn’t diminish the progress that has been made since last years event, and depending on what will be shown during the press conference will undoubtedly weigh heavily on the overall production.

Each company has something to bring to the table at this years event, but CD Projekt Red is easily in the biggest position to outshine everyone else, and I have little doubt that they will let us down. Keep your eyes peeled and ears ready for when they do show off some gameplay of Cyberpunk 2077, which will be followed by the inevitable release date. CyberPunk 2077 will launch for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
