Nikki Glaser recently hosted the Golden Globes and did a great job. But she just revealed that she had to cut some really harsh jokes from her script. The show’s organizers made her remove several lines that were too bold for live television.
Glaser became the first woman to host the Golden Globes solo for the second time in a row. She appeared on The Howard Stern Show and talked about all the jokes that didn’t make it into the final show. Some of them were absolutely savage, especially the one about Brad Pitt.
She had a brutal joke ready for Pitt, who was nominated for his role in the racing movie F1. The joke pointed out Hollywood’s unfair treatment of older actors versus older actresses. She wanted to say that when a man turns 60, he gets to play a racecar driver, but after 35, women only get roles as tired moms who hate their lives.
Hollywood’s double standards never looked this obvious
Glaser didn’t stop there. She also planned to joke that she wasn’t sure if Pitt had actually driven a car himself in the last 30 years. Then she wanted to add another dig about his driving skills, saying his turn signal was on the entire time he drove to the event.
She also had jokes about other celebrities that got cut. One targeted Sydney Sweeney’s movie performance. Glaser wrote that Sweeney played a lesbian who spent two hours bouncing around in tiny shorts, and the movie only made $14 at the box office.
Leonardo DiCaprio was another target. Glaser grouped him with Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro in a category she called “Least Eyes.” She wanted to ask DiCaprio why he’s always squinting, joking that he’s probably trying to read his girlfriend’s ID to make sure her birth year starts with a two. Glaser wasn’t the only one delivering sharp jokes at the ceremony, as other presenters also delivered brutal roasts to fellow celebrities.
Some jokes were cut because of politics, not just because they were too harsh. Glaser said she avoided making jokes about President Trump or ICE because the topics weren’t funny right now.“I was going to come in at some point and say, ‘I’m hearing from the bar that we’re out of ice. And you know, we don’t really need ice. And actually, I hate ice,’” she said.
Comedian Steve Martin also told her not to mention Trump by name. Glaser wanted to joke about Trump renaming the venue, similar to how he renamed the Kennedy Center, but everyone agreed it wasn’t the right time.
She did manage to get one political joke through, though. She made fun of CBS after Trump allies bought the channel in 2025, calling it “America’s newest place to see B.S. news.” The political atmosphere at the ceremony was tense, with some celebrities refusing to join Golden Globes activism despite pressure from others.
