Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is the follow-up to the previous partnership between Square Enix and Omega Force to make a musou style game with the Dragon Quest franchise. Like the mainline games in the franchise, you can easily jump right into the sequel without playing the first, as it has a standalone story, which means you may be a little confused on some aspects, such as how to change party members.

One of the coolest features of Dragon Quest Heroes 2 is the number of characters available for you to use in your party, which is up a bit from the previous game. This is made up of new characters like Lazarel and Teresa that are in your starting party, as well as characters returning from previous games like Dragon Quest 7’s Maribel and Dragon Quest 8’s Jessica.

You will very quickly get a group of four characters in your party to use, but not too much later you will run into additional characters that will only continue to grow the further you get into the game. As a result, you will probably want to switch some characters out, but it’s not as simple as just going into the game menu and making a change like many RPGs.

Instead, you will have to visit the town of Accordia, which is one of the first areas you visit in the game. Thankfully, this can be done with ease via the Zoom ability at pretty much anytime. At this point, you need to go inside the building that houses a few very important characters, such as the one that allows you to play online and change classes. Alongside them, you will find Patty’s Place, which essentially looks like a bar.

Speak with her and she will let you switch out your team members right then and there with ease, with you able to come back at any time and do so again. This is very important the deeper you get into the game, as there are definitely some characters that are more useful in certain situations, so make sure to take advantage of this in Dragon Quest Heroes 2.
