Having a bounty on your head in Red Dead Redemption 2 can make life miserable. It can prevent you from accessing missions, using transportation options, and it will have the law watching you very closely when you’re in town. If your bounty gets high enough, bounty hunters will heed the call and start searching for you everywhere you go.
To remove the Wanted Bounty Level on your character you’re going to want to pay it off. You can pay your bounty at any Mail icon in the game and you can pay bounties for any region that you want.
Other than paying off the bounty there’s no other way around it. If you don’t pay a bounty it will hang over your head, even after law enforcement has killed you. The only way that you’re going to be able to use the stage coach or train in a town where you have a bounty is by paying it to the Clerk.
Sure, you can run away and try to get into another region where bounty hunters and lawmen will stop chasing you but they’ll be right back on your tail when you head back for any mission or exploration. After enough time passes you will eventually be able to use local shops.
In the early stages of a wanted level, lawmen will attempt to capture you alive and you’ll have the opportunity to surrender. Once your bounty and wanted level get high enough, the lawmen will shoot to kill and will not even attempt to take you alive.
As you commit more and more crimes the lawmen will become increasingly protective of the region. Eventually the region map will be on lockdown and you will not be able to enter it. If this is the case, you will need to go to the post office in another town to pay your bounty.
