Vanessa Taylor, a registered nurse and mother of four, recently went viral on social media after she posted a funny invoice billing her husband for all the work that went into having their newest baby. The post quickly caught the attention of parents everywhere who could relate to the idea of putting a price tag on pregnancy and childbirth.
According to Daily Dot, Taylor’s detailed bill included several items that any mother would recognize. She charged $72,000 for nine months of “incubation and housing,” which she explained included “a fully furnished room with 24-7 temperature control.”
She also added $5,000 for doctor’s appointments and administrative fees, covering everything from labs and ultrasounds to waiting room time and co-pays. The pain and suffering category, priced at $20,000, included morning sickness, heartburn, swelling, food aversions, and unsolicited advice from strangers.
She actually went easy on the prices
The reel collected over 135,000 likes on Instagram and nearly 4,000 comments, with many mothers agreeing that Taylor’s prices were actually too low. One commenter wrote, “I think your prices are too low.”
Another said, “You need to UP your fees for pain and suffering!” One person joked about the incubation charge, writing, “You had me at ‘Incubation and Housing, so that includes a Fully Furnished Womb with 24/7 temperature control.’ Genius!!!!”
Taylor didn’t just make up random numbers for her invoice. She based her prices on actual costs for surrogacy and postpartum care services.
The bill included many other realistic charges that often get overlooked. She added a $2,000 emotional labor surcharge for “managing everyone else’s feelings while I was in pain.” There was also a delivery fee that covered pushing, sweating, and what she called “minor trauma.”
One of the biggest line items on the invoice was for breastfeeding. Taylor called breast milk “liquid gold” and set a flat rate of $40,000 for up to 12 months of service. She admitted that the nipple pain involved with breastfeeding is truly priceless. The convenience and handling fees were also included in the total cost.
When everything was added up, Taylor’s grand total came to $175,000. But she pointed out that this was just for their fourth child. Her husband is still trying to pay down the costs from their first three children. Taylor joked that with four births in five years, “he’s going to be forever indebted to me.”
The response from other mothers was overwhelmingly supportive. Many said they wished they had thought of this idea first. Others shared that they completely understood every single charge on the list. One commenter even pointed out that Taylor should have added more fees, saying she needs “a back-to-back babies fee because you haven’t had time to fully recover.”
The post sparked conversations about how much work really goes into pregnancy and childbirth, and how that labor is often unpaid and undervalued. This isn’t the first time a funny social media post about relationships has gone viral, and it probably won’t be the last.
While Taylor’s invoice was clearly meant as a joke, it highlighted a serious point that resonated with parents across social media. Just like other viral moments that leave people shocked, this post had everyone talking about an issue that hits close to home for many families.
