Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) had a chance to be interviewed recently where he gave his thoughts on many of his Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens co-stars.
Mayhew was interviewed by BMag to help promote this appearance at the Supanova Pop Culture Expo in Australia later this month. He gave thoughts on working with Harrison Ford (Han Solo), John Boyega (Finn) and Daisy Ridley (Rey).
Mayhew says Ford and him have been friends for many years. He also describes Ford as one of those people that are willing to always give advice to everyone. Mayhew said Ford will “ask what you want to do, and he’ll tell you how he wants to do it, too“. Mayhew went on to say that there was a “marvelous camaraderie on the set” and it couldn’t have been better for him.
Mayhew also gave his thoughts on both Boyega and Ridley who are the two new stars in Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. Mayhew liked Boyega “very, very much” and said that he’s a great actor. He mentioned he did several scenes with Boyega and that he has a marvelous personality. The part about sharing several scenes with Boyega might mean Chewbacca and Finn are together quite a bit in the new movie.
He called Ridley “a little bit solid” much like Natalie Portman was in the prequels. However, once she got comfortable with everything, she started to relax a bit and started to show her real personality. This is understandable as Ridley has the least experience in the acting world and getting cast in Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens will make you very nervous.
It is also interesting that Mayhew didn’t give any thoughts about Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) or Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia). It’s possible he did not get a chance to work with them much. We’ll just have to wait and see when the movie comes out.
