Dead Space 3 will feature optional micro-transactions

Dead Space 3 will feature optional micro-transactions for players looking to thrust more of their real-world dollars into the game. With Dead Space 3 featuring a deeper crafting system than in previous games, players will be able to purchase scrap parts and materials to use in the crafting machine.

Visceral’s Yara Khoury explained this functionality, and why the Dead Space team chose to introduce this new mechanic into the game in the third installment.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Khoury says: “You can buy resources with real money, but scavenger bots can also give you the currency that you can use on the marketplace, so you don’t have to spend real-world dollars,” they explained. But for players that don’t want to use the free scavenger option, players can purchase currency bundles, whose prices have yet to be outlined.

It doesn’t sound like players will be able to boost ahead with the most powerful weapons however. Khoury also said that there are a lot of weapons in Dead Space 3 that are only available at later stages in the game, unless the game is in New Game Plus mode.

Dead Space 3 is due to release early next month on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
