If you’re a fan of Metroid, odds are you’ve heard of AM2R, Another Metroid 2 Remake. It’s a fan made remake of Metroid 2 that unfortunately met its end after Nintendo issued the creator a cease and desist letter, effectively ending development on it.  While the developer, Milton Guasti, could not continue work, he recently shared some good news regarding future projects.

Announced on AM2R’s Twitter account, Guasti revealed that he will be working on Moon Studios’ upcoming platformer Ori and the Will of the Wisps. “It’s a special day for another reason,” the tweet said. “I’m now part of Moon Studios, I’ll be working on level design for Ori and the Will of the Wisps.” The other special occasions the tweet was referring to were the 1st anniversary of AM2R and 31st anniversary of Metroid yesterday.

Moon Studios’ first game, Ori and the Blind Forest, released in 2015 and received praise for its art direction, platforming, and narrative. The sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, was outed last year prior to E3 but did not make an appearance. It was finally officially announced at Microsoft’s E3 2017 press conference this year with a teaser trailer. A release date was not revealed.

With Guasti hired to work on the level design, it’s hard to say how far along in production the game is. It does seem fitting that he is now working on a Metroidvania title, and one that should come to fruition without legal interference.
