Doom 4 will be a next-gen title, Rage 2 scrapped

Doom 4 isn’t going to be making its way to consoles anytime soon. ID Software has apparently gone back to the drawing board with their popular franchise, according to a report out of Eurogamer. It seems that it didn’t live up to the level of quality that was expected from it, so the developers have “refocused its efforts”.

“id refocused its efforts on a new version of Doom 4 that promises to meet the very high expectations everyone has for this game and this franchise. When we’re ready to talk about the Doom 4 id is making, we’ll let folks know,” said Bethesda’s Pete Hines.

According to Bethesda’s PR head, plans for a follow-up to 2011’s Rage have also been cancelled. That would leave all hands on deck at id to be focused on a next-gen version of Doom 4. Rumors have been swirling about Doom 4 for years. As far back as 2011, rumors surfaced that claimed that Doom 4 had been indefinitely cancelled.
