Earlier last month Gamestop revealed that Battlefield 3 might not be coming to Steam as originally expected. Â This news was somewhat clouded by rumors that had the game releasing on Steam at some point after the initial launch of Battlefield 3, but had not been confirmed. Â Today, EA has revealed that Battlefield 3 will not be releasing on Steam. Â The feud between Electronic Arts and Valve seems to be growing bigger by the day, with titles from EA’s catalog of games being removed from the Steam service intermittently.
We’ve seen titles like Crysis 2 and Dragon Age II already become casulties of the dispute, and “a restrictive terms of service” seems to have played a large role in this fallout between the two companies. Â Battlefield 3 will be available on nearly all other digital distribution channels, so it doesn’t appear that EA is trying to funnel players into its newly revamped Origin content delivery system. Â What exactly these crippling terms of service are at this point is unknown.
There has been speculation that DLC could be the potential issue that is holding back an agreement between the two companies, but the only thing that is certain right now, is that Battlefield 3 will not be available on Steam this fall as confirmed by EA.
