343 Industries has announced their plans for Halo: The Master Chief Collection at this year’s gamescom, which takes place next week. It look like the game, and it’s Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer will have a huge presence including new reveals and a 4v4 tournament.
Halo 2: Anniversary will be playable for the first time…on Ascension and a yet-to-be-announced map
The biggest announcement made by 343 was that the game would even be playable. This will be the first time that the game is playable in a public setting, so expect some big reactions coming out of the convention. Attendees will be able to try out the Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer section on both Ascension and a new, unannounced map.
As most readers probably know, while Halo: The Master Chief Collection includes every map ever put in a Halo game, the remade Halo 2: Anniversary will feature only six classic maps in the new graphical style. So far we know three of the maps included which are Ascension, Coagulation, and Zanzibar. The new map that gamescom attendees will be playing on will be the fourth, leaving two more unknowns.
We previously speculated about what maps would be included in the package. So far the predictions have been correct, leaving Lockout, Ivory Tower, and Sanctuary as possible maps to be announced. Although Midship is still a strong candidate for inclusion.
As a bonus to attendees who get to try the game before anyone else, there will also be a Halo: The Master Chief Collection torunament hosted by Microsoft and 343. “Open to all gamescom attendees, the tournament will feature $10,000 USD in prizing, four days of qualification on the gamescom show floor, and culminate with the grand finals on Sunday, August 17. Our friends at Twitch will be broadcasting the finals for all the world to see at Twitch.tv/Halo.”
Halo: The Master Chief Collection is set to release on November 11th exclusively for Xbox One.
