When it was discovered that Bioware would be offering day one DLC for Mass Effect 3 many long time fans found themselves questioning these business tactics by the developer. While fans of the long running franchise may want to see all there is to see, and understandably so, “From Ashes” isn’t essential to the Mass Effect 3 story, says Casey Hudson of Bioware. The content is secondary to the main plot, and Hudson believes that fans are fearing the worst when it comes to missing out on content unless they fork over an extra $10.
In a recent interview with Venture Beat, Hudson explained what the content is and why it’s completely optional for those players that buy the Standard Edition of Mass Effect 3.
“As a fan, some people fear the worst, and they put their own spin on what they think is happening…Mass Effect 3 is all about answering all the biggest questions in the lore, learning about the mysteries and the Protheans and the Reapers, being able to decide for yourself how all of these things come to an end. The DLC, whether it’s day one or not, is always going to be sugar on top, the extra. You know, the extra little bits of content that tell side stories… We would never take stuff out of the core game and only have it in DLC.”
Mass Effect 3 launches on March 6th for PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360.
