It was expected to be one of the most important releases of the year, and it did not disappoint. Monster Hunter: World debuts in Japan with more than 1 million sales according to Media Create, becoming instantly on the PS4 game with the strongest debut numbers and poised to become the best selling game in the history of the platform, after passing the numbers of Dragon Quest XI in a few weeks.

Capcom already forecasted excellent numbers when it announced earlier this week that the game had managed to ship five million copies (plus digital sales) worldwide, which makes it the fastest selling game in the series. And this success in its homeland has been mirrored in other Western countries like the United Kingdom, where it also debuted at number one.

On top of that reviews for the game have been excellent, with our own article defining the game as “a revelation, taking a series that was once reserved for all but the most hardcore of fans and tweaking it enough to make it appeal to a new generation of gamers while still keeping its core perfectly intact.”

The only other new release of the week was The Seven Deadly Sins: Knights of Britannia also for PS4, but in this case the game hasn’t been able to attract a wide audience.

On the hardware list, PS4 enjoys a huge boost of sales thanks to Monster Hunter, while Nintendo Switch stays at the same level as last week.
