A new spin-off Dragon Ball manga has been announced with a very weird premise. Yamcha is the main star, although the events aren’t what they seem to be.

As reported by Crunchyroll, Shonen Jump has begun publication of a reimagined timeline where Yamcha is the main star of both Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z. Yes, this manga exists and it’s not a hoax.

It’s called “Dragon Ball Side Story: The Case of Being Reincarnated as Yamcha” and it has been written and illustrated by Dragon Garow Lee which is based on the original work by Akira Toriyama.

The story of the manga is weird but very funny. It breaks the fourth wall because it involves a high school student that dies in the real world and gets reincarnated inside the body of Yamcha in the Dragon Ball world.

Luckily this high school student is a fan of Dragon Ball and has read all of the manga. Due to his knowledge of the manga, he knows what will happen in the future so he’s prepared for all of the enemies to come.

Thanks to his knowledge of the manga, he manages to train as Yamcha to be the toughest guy around. Unlike in the real Dragon Ball Z timeline, this version of Yamcha does not die by the Saibamen. He even goes to Namek in order to get his potential unlocked by Guru.

Anyway, the first chapter in Japanese can be read by clicking here. Translations might be available soon, so you can read what is going on. You have to admit, this manga has an original premise and it’s hilarious. Many people have mocked the character of Yamcha for many years, but now he’s finally starting to become cool again.
