2016 is a huge year for the Pokemon franchise as it celebrates its 20th anniversary and both The Pokemon Company and Nintendo are making sure that it’s worthy of that milestone. We already have Pokken Tournament coming next month and Pokemon Go coming at some point this year, but now the next generation of games has been announced as well with Pokemon Sun and Moon.
Nintendo announced just the other day that they would be holding a special Pokemon Nintendo Direct later in the week. Soon after, it was revealed that the Direct would only be 5 minutes long.
At this point, most speculated that we would get the announcement of a Pokemon Z finally and maybe talk about the Virtual Console release of Red, Blue, and Yellow tomorrow for the Nintendo 3DS, but they dropped a bomb on us today, even if it was leaked a few days earlier.
Not long after the Direct announcement, a few trademarks were found for a Pokemon Sun and Moon along with logos for each of the two games, seeming to show that they were real. Now that the special Pokemon Nintendo Direct has aired, that has been confirmed as Pokemon Sun and Moon have been officially unveiled to the world.
Pokemon Sun and Moon will be out later this year in Holiday 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS. Make sure to stay tuned to Attack of the Fanboy as more information surfaces about these two new games in the Pokemon series.
