PS4 and Monster Hunter: World Keep Dominating Japanese Sales

Recommended Videos

PlayStation 4 and Monster Hunter: World continue at top of the Japanese sales charts, according to Media Create. The results from this week are very interesting, as they allow us to make a better judgement of the release of Capcom’s game and whether the great numbers from the debut week were just direct result from hardcore fans or if there’s hope for more sales in the long term.

Turns out, the game has clearly been very well received among the Japanese public, as it holds one of the softest drops in its second week among recent Monster Hunter games, and the biggest in number of sales since 2013’s Monster Hunter 4. Combined with the success of the game in Western markets like United Kingdom, it really seems like Capcom has chosen a good strategy to maintain the core fanbase in Japan and expand the popularity of the series overseas.

The highest new entry in the charts this week is Dragon Ball Fighter Z for PS4, which has sold on par with the debut of Xenoverse 2 on Sony’s console. A little below, but with much lower sales enters the Nintendo Switch port of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

On the hardware list, PS4 continues its winning streak after keeping its strong numbers even after the boost for the release of Monster Hunter: World, a sign that the game is attracting a new segment of the public to the console. Nintendo Switch remains at second place with strong numbers, although far from those of PS4.
