Shenmue 3 looks to Kickstarter to revive classic franchise

Those waiting on Shenmue 3 have had a long wait on their hands indeed.  Though good news surfaced this morning when it was revealed that Yu Suzuki may crowd-fund Shenmue 3 via Kickstarter.    The news comes by way of Sebastian-Adbelhamid, a French journalist who posted the news to Twitter on Sunday morning.

Similar Kickstarting ventures have seen success recently, and this could be a completely viable option considering the massive fan base that still exists for the game.  The last entry in the Shenmue series arrived on the SEGA Dreamcast, all the way back in 2001.  The franchise which was supposed to see a trilogy on the console, was probably stymied by the failure of the Dreamcast when it was squeezed out of the market by the PlayStation 2 and original Xbox.

We’ll need to keep an eye on Kickstarter for any details about this new Shenmue title, where and when we’ll see the game is anyone’s guess.
