Star Trek: Bridge Crew is an important game for VR, as we pointed out in our review which said “Delivering on the dream of a Star Trek VR experience, Star Trek: Bridge Crew is a fantastic new game for anyone with a VR setup.” It seems that we weren’t the only ones to think how the game could help with VR adoption, with HTC announcing that all new purchases of the Vive headset will come with Star Trek: Bridge Crew for free.
The Vive has had a few pack-in titles over the last year. Launching with Job Simulator and Fantastic Contraption before moving to The Gallery and Zombie Training Simulator, everyone who bought a Vive started with a decent slate of titles. Star Trek: Bridge Crew may be the best yet though, offering a realistic experience from the series.
It’s also a smart move to be paired up with the game, which is available across all VR platforms. Oculus Rift and PSVR both also have the game, and all three can play together via Cross-Play multiplayer. For the HTC Vive to become the defacto way to experience the title would be a big win.
It’s also good to see the HTC Vive partnering with Ubisoft, who has been nailing their VR releases, despite some troublesome sales. Boosting those sales figures should help keep them interested in this burgeoning market, which only helps VR gaming as a whole.
