DICE is slightly blaming the release of Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens as the reason why there’s no single player campaign in Star Wars Battlefront.
DICE’s general manager, Patrick Bach, talked with Gamespot discussing the reason why there is no proper single player campaign in Star Wars Battlefront.
Bach said needing Star Wars Battlefront to release alongside Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens “influenced DICE’s decisions“. They never had a chance to think about adding the single player campaign.
Bach continued to say that “single-player was never in the plan” for Star Wars Battlefront. It was never a part of DICE’s concept for the game. Their concept was for players to re-live the battles from the movies.
EA set a strict deadline for Star Wars Battlefront to release a month before Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens. There is no better time than November 2015 to release the game to maximize its sales.
Bach even admitted DICE’s single player campaigns have never been “as strong as our multiplayer“. It sounds like he and DICE didn’t feel adding a single player campaign to Star Wars Battlefront would have added anything worthwhile.
That’s not so say there are no single player modes in Star Wars Battlefront. You can still play against “bots” and there are several offline modes. It’s just that the game has no campaign with a story.
