The PS4 might be selling more units than any other console in most countries, but in Japan it has been beaten by Nintendo’s Wii U and 3DS.

Famitsu has posted the best selling video games and video games hardware during Christmas week over in Japan. The 3DS and and Wii U came first and second respectively while the PS Vita came in third place in the hardware sales chart. The PS4 was only in fourth place.

To be more specific, the New 3DS system sold 155,397 units, the Wii U sold 101,122 units and the PS Vita sold 66,069 units. The PS4 only managed to sell 60,330 units. This goes to show us that Japanese people might like handheld gaming more than home consoles these days. The handhelds sold better this Christmas.

It also shows us that the Wii U is more popular in Japan than the PS4 right now. This might be because more games are more appealing on the Wii U for Japanese gamers. Sony’s console seems to cater towards more Western buyers at the moment. This might change once the likes of Final Fantasy XV, Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 all appear.

Down the bottom of the list were the normal 3DS, PS3 and Xbox One consoles. They only sold 5,050, 3,459 and 479 units during Christmas week respectively.
