Sweet Tooth’s iconic flaming head and ice cream truck were bound to make it to the silver screen eventually. According to a report from Deadline Hollywood, everyone’s favorite psychopathic, homicidal clown is one step closer to making the jump.

The report states that Sony Pictures has made a preemptive 7-figure deal for Brian Taylor, the co-director of the recent Ghost Rider film and co-writer of the Crank franchise, to write and direct a live action adaptation of the car-combat game. It will tentatively be produced by Avi and Ari Arad; Avi being a producer of the Spider-Man films as well as the franchise’s newest installment, The Amazing Spider-Man, which is set to hit theaters this July.

What type of storyline the screenplay will follow is anyone’s guess. A defining characteristic of the Twisted Metal series is the incentive it gives players to complete the campaign multiple times with different characters, as each one yields a different story and respective ending. The report does indicate that both Sweet Tooth and Doll Face will be making an appearance in the vehicular combat tournament and will compete with other nostalgic Twisted Metal stars for the ultimate prize: one wish from the tournaments enigmatic ringleader, Calypso.

The recent update of the Playstation classic recently released and is currently garnering generally favorable reviews from critics. Check out our Twisted Metal review here and stay tuned for more updates.
