Valve has stirred up quite the ruckus with their announcement of a “surprise” at E3.  After the announcement Valve fans immediately began to wonder what this might be.  We posted HERE and HERE as rumors, speculation, fabricated evidence, and more rumors and speculation began to unfold.  Though this morning a source close to VG247 claims that the surprise for E3 is indeed the unveiling of Source Engine 2.

So, it’s not completely out of the cards that Valve shows an early build of Half Life 3 or equivalent  running on the new technology if in fact this is the case.  But with Gabe Newell confirming that the surprise is not Episode 3, and the fact that he will not be in attendance at this years convention, this could be another rumor to chalk up to internet hype.

As much as we all want to know what Valve has up their sleeve for the coming years, it looks like we’re gonna have to wait for E3.  If we didn’t it wouldn’t be a surprise now would it?
