Xbox One likely won’t support your expensive headset

You know that expensive headset you bought a short while ago to hear people creeping up on you in your favorite shooter game? Yeah, that one. It’s probably not gonna work on your Xbox One, according to IGN.

According to their report, the Xbox One controller has a proprietary port that replaces the existing chat connector. This new port would make current gaming headsets from Turtle Beach, Astro Gaming, and Tritton incompatible on the new console. Well, players would likely still be able to hear game audio, but chatting with friends wouldn’t be possible with the current model headsets.

According to IGN, this proprietary port is part of an initiative by Microsoft to “gain control of the accessory market”, so a backwards compatibility solution, while possible, is not likely. Microsoft’s official statement on the matter goes as follows:

“We are working with 3rd party headset manufacturers to create new headsets that will take full advantage of the Xbox One technology. We will share more details in the future.”

There you have it. Place another check in the box for features that will be explained later.
