Playtonic Games has finally confirmed the release date of their platforming game Yooka-Laylee on Nintendo Switch. The game will be available from December 14, marking the end of a long wait since the original release in April for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Yooka Laylee has been seen as a revival of sorts of classic 3D platforming titles, a love letter to popular games from the past that despite its flaws it managed to satisfy many of the fans that had been waiting patiently for it.
Some of its issues had to do with the camera and the lack of options like skipping cutscenes, something that the team tried to fix with an update. In any case, the quality of the overall experience was enough to win over fans of the genre, which makes it a perfect fit for a Nintendo platform. Apart from these graphic fixes, the Switch port will also feature optimized controls for Joy-Cons, local multiplayer options, an a new achievement system.
We gave the game a positive review when it launched earlier this year, stating that “The gameplay is just what anyone would want from a spiritual successor to the Banjo-Kazooie series, complete with new abilities and unique worlds, even though it is sometimes held back by some frame rate and camera issues. The collectathon genre of 3D platformers may not be for everyone, but despite some flaws, Yooka-Laylee is the game that fans have been waiting for all these years.”
Yooka-Laylee will launch for Nintendo Switch on December 14, and it will be available for pre-order from December 7. Watch the date announcement video below.
