Yooka-Laylee Update Coming to Fix Camera and Other Issues

by | @Konman72 | on May 2, 2017

Yooka-Laylee from Playtonic was one of those games that everyone was talking about. With a massive Kickstarter campaign, mostly built off the backs of former Rare developers, the game promised a return to classic 3D platforming. It turned out pretty well, though many had issues with the experience that mostly were holdovers from the genre’s past. Now a new Yooka-Laylee update is coming that looks ready to fix a lot of these problems, while making some key quality of life updates.

What will be in this Yooka-Laylee update? Well we don’t have official patch notes yet, but the developer has laid out a few of the things they’re working on, including the main complaint from many: the camera.

“In the days since launch – and as we work with speed towards the Nintendo Switch – the dev team has been frogmarched back down into the development mines to uncover our next big game update, which will add significant improvements and introduce some of the most requested features. That means stuff like the optional ability to skip dialogue faster, bypass cutscenes or reduce those pesky gibberish voices, which should please the speedrunners among us. We’ll also be adding a sprinkling of design polish throughout the adventure and by popular request, changes to how the camera operates.”

A smoother, more responsive camera will be a huge improvement for Yooka-Laylee, but many of these others changes are big for players. Skipping dialogue is usually a bad idea on the first play through, but for those who want to experience the game multiple times it’s a nice ability.

Yooka-Laylee has a long road ahead of it, but it’s already looking good and this update makes it look even better. Check back for news on the upcoming Nintendo Switch version and future updates. LEt us know in the comments if this update will help you enjoy the game more.
