Infidelity is often treated as the single reason a marriage ends, and the conversation online tends to stop there. A TikTok creator who divorced her husband after 13 years says the affair was only part of the story, pointing to years of other problems that came before it. Her video has drawn over two million views, according to the Daily Dot.
The creator, Kiki, posts on TikTok as @kikimamaoriginal. Her caption says it is time to share her story, and on-screen text labels it part one of a series on why she filed immediately after the cheating. Kiki says she and her husband married in a Mormon temple, and that he confessed to the affair, though she had to find out the details herself, as he held them back.
Kiki says she decided the marriage was over as soon as he confessed. However, she explains that the infidelity landed on top of other issues, as she says intimacy problems started around the 12-year mark. She says her husband blamed those problems on the way she was raised, and she describes his response as gaslighting.
Kiki says her husband’s affair was the last straw after years of feeling alone
Kiki says her husband traveled often for work and sometimes left without warning, which left her handling childcare for their three-year-old on her own. She adds that he contributed little toward the cost of a nanny, even with her handling most of the parenting. According to Kiki, their arguments went in circles and never led to any change, which she again describes as gaslighting.
The strain took a toll on her health, according to the video. Kiki says she developed panic attacks and what she calls “situational depression.” She also says her child saw her crying, and she believes her husband let that happen on purpose. After learning about the affair, Kiki says she researched infidelity and the difference between a single lapse and a long-term affair.
The comment section filled with viewers who had made a similar call. One viewer said everyone villainized her for leaving her husband the same month she found his dating app accounts, when their son was two. Another commenter wrote that cheating is “a SERIES of choices” rather than a single mistake, and that the commenter would never accept that it “just happened.”
Other viewers kept it short. One commenter wrote “I love a leaver,” while another wrote that it is “never a slip up” and always a choice. A third joked that she left a cheating first husband and married his younger brother. Kiki’s story drew the kind of strong reaction that followed when a Texas woman said her husband confessed during their morning prayer and viewers questioned whether it was really spontaneous.
Kiki has not named her ex-husband, and the video was posted at the end of August before it drew renewed attention this week. However, the video has kept collecting comments, with thousands under the first part alone. Some viewers used the space to compliment Kiki directly, with one telling her that her ex was “absolutely insane” for cheating.
Kiki has labeled the video as part one, so follow-up videos could reveal more about how the divorce played out and what came after she filed for divorce.
Attack of the Fanboy was unable to independently verify her ex-husband’s side of the story, as this account originates solely from Kiki’s TikTok video.
