The newest batch of documents released by the Department of Justice reveals that Kimbal Musk, brother of tech titan Elon Musk and a Boulder resident, is referenced at least 140 times in emails exchanged with disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein and his associates, as reported by East Bay Times. What’s really shocking isn’t just the volume, but the sheer casualness of the exchanges during a period of immense personal chaos for Kimbal.
These emails cover a wide range of topics, including scheduling meetings, planning parties, and discussing personal relationships. It’s important to remember that these communications took place between 2012 and 2015. That timeline is crucial because it was years after the first serious allegations of Epstein abusing young women and girls had already surfaced.
One of the most telling interactions occurred in 2012 when Kimbal Musk thanked Epstein and his team for connecting him to a woman. This prompted a stern reply from Boris Nikolic, one of Epstein’s friends. Nikolic warned Kimbal that he “better be nice” to the woman because, as Nikolic put it, “Jeffrey goes crazy when someone mistreats his girls/friends.” Kimbal’s reply was short and included a winking emoji, confirming he had received the message “wide and clear.”
Reading that exchange just feels incredibly unsettling, knowing what we know now about Epstein’s network
Kimbal Musk is a well-known figure in the restaurant world, having opened The Kitchen on Pearl Street in Boulder back in 2004 with chef Hugo Matheson. The restaurant chain has since expanded to cities like Denver, Chicago, and Austin. Many of the 140 references were simple newsletters and updates about The Kitchen or his philanthropic work, which includes his “learning garden” initiative that creates outdoor classrooms for elementary school kids across the nation.
Despite the seemingly normal business updates, Kimbal was clearly dealing with some serious personal issues during this period. In January 2013, Epstein reached out to Kimbal via email, extending a very specific invitation: “You are invited to the island for a couple of days, come relax.”
Kimbal’s reply indicated he wasn’t exactly in a relaxing state of mind. He told Epstein he was dealing with what he described as “the nuclear explosion” that was his life at the moment, though he suggested he might be able to visit that spring. Additional emails throughout the period show Kimbal trying to schedule coffee meetings and inviting Epstein to various events.
The newly revealed files also shed light on one of Kimbal’s romantic relationships at the time. In one exchange, Kimbal sent a redacted recipient an email asking to significantly dial back their involvement. Kimbal wrote that while they knew how much they liked each other, he wasn’t “able to do a real relationship right now.” Instead, he asked if they would be open to “going back a step to just dating,” seeing each other on weekends, and focusing only on “fun stuff.”
The redacted recipient then forwarded this message directly to Epstein. Epstein’s reaction was immediate and celebratory, replying with “good news” and stating, “now i have you back again full time.” He then invited the recipient to “the ranch.”
This massive new document dump is part of the Department of Justice’s ongoing effort to reveal what the government knew about the millionaire financier’s sexual abuse and his interactions with the rich and powerful. The DOJ released more than 3 million pages of new documents and media from its investigative files late last week. For those wondering, the disclosure also revealed new correspondence involving Elon Musk, who had previously denied ever visiting Epstein’s infamous island.
