‘Fruit Love Island’ fans unfollowed the account during the blackout, and the creator’s response has them all catching strays now

The creator behind the AI-generated series ‘Fruit Love Island’ has rage-quit following widespread backlash and a wave of video takedowns. Operating under the TikTok and YouTube handle @ai.cinema021, the owner of the “AI Cinema” accounts posted a string of furious videos blaming “AI hating [expletive]” for their declining view counts.

‘Fruit Love Island’ burst onto the scene in late February, quickly becoming a defining example of what critics call “AI slop.” As first highlighted by Daily Dot, the series features anthropomorphic fruit characters in drama-filled scenarios where babies are born as the wrong produce item, routinely pulling tens of millions of views alongside a heavy wave of hate comments from people critical of generative AI tools like Sora.

The creator’s popularity grew alongside the controversy until the backlash escalated into what they claim were mass reporting campaigns. This reportedly resulted in roughly half their videos being removed, prompting expletive-laden threats about ending the show. The creator also threatened to “use so much [expletive] ai and use all ur [expletive] clean water,” a direct jab at environmental concerns surrounding the water usage of AI data centers, a topic that has drawn scrutiny over app-level data collection from tech critics more broadly.

The creator turning on their own fans didn’t help matters

The creator’s anger then extended to their own audience, with reports of them screaming at followers for unfollowing the account during a gap in uploads. “ILL BURN DOWN THE LOVE ISLAND VILLA IF I LOSE ANY MORE FOLLOWERS,” the creator reportedly wrote at one point. As of Monday, the TikTok account remains active but hosts only 10 episodes, with the angry videos removed and a final “crashout” post declaring the series over still circulating in screenshots.

On X, the response was largely celebratory. User @DatChaosGuy shared a GIF alongside the statement “BULLYING WORKS,” while @wariocolosseum summarized events by saying the “creator of fruit love island is threatening to make everyone’s lives better.” The pile-on continued with @DAKKADAKKA1 writing, “Lmao live by the AI slop, die by the AI slop,” and TikTok, which has seen its own share of heated community debates go viral recently, provided no shortage of commentary on the meltdown either.

Not everyone was celebrating. User @ItsTragik pushed back, writing, “Why can’t you all just let people enjoy something? If you don’t like it then don’t watch it, problem solved.” Even that defense, however, amounted to calling the series “not amazing but ok” — which wasn’t exactly a ringing endorsement for the creator either.
