Influencer’s extreme birthday surprise involves a cake and a ‘dream’ trip, but the unbelievable destination rips the internet apart

She didn't see that coming.

An influencer’s birthday surprise for her boyfriend has completely ripped the internet apart after she revealed the “dream” gift was a trip to visit Auschwitz. Radhica Isac, who posts on TikTok as @radhica.isac, wanted to make sure her boyfriend’s 30th birthday was memorable, and she certainly succeeded. Isac started the surprise by offering a diversion gift: a Calvin Klein shirt. She let her viewers know that the shirt was just a cover so he wouldn’t suspect the massive gift she had planned.

Isac was clearly very proud of the effort she put in. She explained that the trip was something her boyfriend had wanted for a very long time, even before the couple knew each other. She said, “I’m so proud of myself for making it happen.” The real reveal came when the birthday cake arrived. After he blew out the sparkler, she instructed him to cut off the top piece of the dessert. Beneath the icing, the message read: “We’re going to Auschwitz!”

Auschwitz, of course, isn’t your typical surprise destination. It’s famously the largest concentration camp that was active during World War II. Today, the site operates as the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, welcoming visitors who want to learn about the Holocaust and understand the lasting impact it represents.

Visiting Auschwitz is considered a deeply serious and solemn experience, not the kind of fun, over-the-top surprise you’d film for a TikTok reveal using a celebratory cake

The sheer disconnect between the upbeat, celebratory presentation and the grave reality of the destination left social media completely stunned. It’s somewhat expected after some celebs normalizing the Swastika, though. Users admitted they were shocked, with one person commenting that they would have made “4 billion guesses and wouldn’t pick the surprise.” Another user said, “You will simply never guess how this ends. This was my reaction.”

Once the initial shock wore off, the criticism began rolling in fast. People weren’t convinced that treating the trip like a prize reveal was the best idea. One user, @CTWarriorMonkey, said they understood why people want to visit for historical reasons or to feel a sense of connection to family, but added, “However, treating it like it’s a trip to Disneyland is f***ing mental.”

This year I prepared a unique surprise for my boyfriend and I decided to lie to him and only tell him that I had a small present for him, which was a Calvin Klein shirt. I wanted to see if he would be disappointed, and of course, he wasn’t. He accepted it with the same grateful heart he always has, and it just proved once again what kind of person he is, someone who appreciates even the smallest things. Later, when I revealed the real surprise, he was so happy. He isn’t the type to show big emotions on camera, but I know how deeply he feels everything, and hearing him say this was his favourite present ever meant everything to me. I am so grateful to have a partner like him and to be a part of his life. What do we think about this surprise idea?☺️

The surprise was so jarring that it led to some incredibly dark humor online. Commentator @GeonnCannon quipped that he read the message in a “Wheel of Fortune announcer voice.” He imagined the announcement: “Pack your bags, Cindy, because YOU’RE GOING TO AUSCHWITZ!!!” The post continued with, “That’s right, an all-expense paid seven day trip to the site of humanity’s worst atrocities!”

Another user, @EJayOkay, joked about the optics, saying, “Putting him in a striped shirt and sending him to Auschwitz lmao…do I know what you are?” Even the cake itself drew fire, with one user stating flatly that bakeries should refuse to make cakes with that message. Notably, an alleged allusion to eugenics recently brought Sydney Sweeney under immense controversy.

However, despite the intense backlash, Isac maintained that the gift was incredibly meaningful to her partner. After this explosive reaction, it’s unclear if Isac will post TikTok updates about the trip itself when they go. However, you can bet that the internet will be waiting to see exactly how they approach documenting such a historically significant and serious visit.
