A pizza manager in Florida is getting a lot of praise online after he refused to give a refund to a customer who tried to return three pizzas that were mostly eaten. The incident happened in Jacksonville, Florida, when a customer named Rachel Simon came to return the pizzas to manager Chris.
Chris was clearly frustrated because Simon was only returning “25%” of one pizza, “less than half of another,” and the third pizza was just an empty box. Simon said she wanted a refund because the pizzas were “burnt” and “very dry.”
According to BroBible, the manager wasn’t convinced. He compared the situation to eating most of a McDonald’s meal and then trying to return just a few bites. “That would be like me going to McDonald’s, eating three-fourths of a meal, and bringing them a bite of a burger and a couple of fries, and expecting that…,” he said.
The company policy doesn’t allow refunds for almost completely eaten food
When Simon kept arguing about the pizza quality, Chris had a simple response. “But then you shouldn’t have ate it,” he told her. He explained that the store’s policy had already been told to her during an earlier phone call. The company’s Quality Guarantee policy says customers can’t get refunds for purchased items. Instead, unhappy customers can get a free replacement pizza of equal or lesser value. But there’s an important rule: customers can’t eat more than two slices if they want to claim the guarantee.
Since Simon had eaten way more than two slices from three different pizzas, she didn’t qualify for a replacement. Fast food chains have faced similar disputes over their policies, with some McDonald’s locations breaking their own rules to handle demanding customers.
Even after Chris said “So there’s nothing I can do for you,” Simon asked to speak with a supervisor or corporate office. Chris told her, “I’m the manager. You can make a complaint if you like, but that’s the policy set by corporate.”
Simon later posted a photo of what she called the “burnt pizza,” but it looked fine to most people. The cheese had a slight char, but nothing that would be considered burnt. Other fast food chains have dealt with customer complaints too, including legal battles over menu item claims.
She wrote that the manager wasn’t “wanting to do his job properly,” but people online completely disagreed with her. Almost everyone who saw the video sided with Chris. The situation shows that once you eat the product, you’ve accepted the quality. You can’t return an empty plate to a restaurant, and you definitely can’t return three empty or half-eaten pizzas. Chris handled everything professionally.
