HBO GO coming to PlayStation 3 Shortly, PS4 later

by Bill Hess on January 17, 2014

Sony is adding HBO GO to its roster of applications on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles.

From the PlayStation Blog:  “With the HBO GO app on your PlayStation system and an HBO subscription via your cable or satellite provider, you’ll have unlimited, on-demand access to your favorite HBO shows, like Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire and True Detective. HBO GO offers every episode of every season of the network’s best shows. You can also enjoy hit movies, sports, documentaries, and comedy specials, as well as special behind-the-scenes extras.”

Sony did not deliver a timeline on when to expect the on-demand application to watch HBO, and asks for users to check back later for more details.  They also did not say if/when an HBO GO app would make its way to the PlayStation Vita handheld.

What sucks is I switched from Comcast to WOW since I could get 30mbps with a Business Class Modem and Wireless Router, Basic and digital including HBO channels for 2 rooms and only pay $119 a month till 2016 which is a good bit cheaper than Comcast, BUT, The HBO go app won’t wok if you don’t have a big name provider like Comcast, Timewarner, Cox, etc. :(

The 360 had this app for more than a year. Just used it a few times since it is not live streaming (would love to watch boxing), and it’s only good for pre-recorded shows and episodes. But since I have my PS3 in the room, I will probably dload it and see if there are any upgrades to the app.
