Holiday Season Biggest in History for Microsoft and Xbox 360

Microsoft has taken the lid off of its recent holiday sales figures. In them, the company shows off the most impressive stats that the Xbox Division has ever put up. The strong growth comes deep in the console's life-cycle which Microsoft points to "sales execution and compelling products" as catalysts.

In the period, Microsoft claims that "Xbox 360 platform revenue grew $322 million or 9%, led by increased volumes of Xbox 360 consoles sold and higher LIVE revenue". The company sold 8.2 million Xbox 360s in the period, as compared to 6.3 million in the period one year earlier.

With a steadily increasing install-base still growing, enormous domestic success with the console, and continuing strength in their subscribtion based Xbox Live service, who needs a next generation? An executive at Microsoft recently addressed the growing concerns that "core gamers" have had with the lack of exclusive titles coming to the Xbox 360.

They did that good without a price drop, wow, I’m guessing they’ll destroy holiday 2012 too with halo and a price drop

I still wonder how MS was able to make the Xbox brand so big. I mean, Playstation was the BEAST for two generations.

Dude, everyone keeps ignoring me but I’ve said it a hundread times.

      (1) Entire year as the only next gen console – this means every drooling fanboy dying for a new console went out and got it.

      (2) $200 better price tag on release – this sent more Sony fanboys to Xbox because $600 is just too much to spend on a console; not even including any games.

      (3) Online play is a huge thing this generation; never has online play been so important, with the headstart Xbox won all that online market by default. Until all online multi plat games go open (cross platform gaming) the online market will be huge to whoever can win it first.

      nice….. uhh….. explanations there…

“this means every drooling fanboy dying for a new console went out and got it”

      Anyway..

“Xbox won all that online market by default”

No they didnt… They were the first to offer huge features. First off any consoles. Thats why Xbox live won the online market.

Look, why dont you bring your argument to VG chartz and people will provide better answers than I have now.

Plus your explanations sound more like an excuse than a proper reply.

An excuse why the PS brand has decline.

MS started pushing forward with online gaming last generation with Live, especially with Halo 2. Also Live was full of features at launch, where it took time for PSN to add. I think the problem is that Sony didn’t take online gaming serious enough at the start, of course they do now and currently Psn offers a lot.

So I don’t think default is right, MS invested a lot on Live and this competition pushed Sony to do the same.

I’m all for giving M$ credit for “innovating online play”. Meaning that on PC I have a seperate friends list and log in information for all online games. But on PS3

WTF, all the time I swear it just posts when I didn’t hit post.

Anyways props to xbox for innovating and perhaps that did help them win the online market but it doesn’t matter. It’s the 1 year headstart and $200 better price tag that sent PS2 gamers to Xbox in the first place. An entire year as the only next gen where online play is a must is a big deal and they did win it by default.

But WTFE, everyone I know sees them as a complete scam after I get done with them. They are appaled that Xbox makes you pay them for gold before you can do anything on their console among 50 other things I have against xbox.

I don’t think were ready for a new console because of what Allen said to high of a price it will probably be. I would shell out $600 only rich little kids would have it. Plus when the 360 cane out there wasn’t a hit title like there us today with Tue call of duty series. So what would the the developer do only do the next gen console.
