The Call of Duty franchise continues its winning streak in the UK as it’s the third time in three years that a COD game has been the best seller during the week before Christmas.
GFK reports that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was the best selling video game during the week ending on Christmas Eve. Both Black Ops 3 and Advanced Warfare achieved the same feat in 2015 and 2014 respectively.
Even though Infinite Warfare may not have sold as many copies as Black Ops 3 did last year, this goes to show us that the popularity of the Call of Duty brand is still strong. It will be interesting to see what Sledeghammer Games has in store for us in 2017.
Close behind is another big franchise in the UK as FIFA 17 took out the second spot. The game has been the second best selling video game in the UK for third consecutive weeks now.
Taking out the next spots were Battlefield 1 and Watch Dogs 2. Ubisoft should be happy with Watch Dogs 2 creeping up the charts as the game didn’t launch with stellar numbers. The sequel to Watch Dogs has to rely on good word of mouth as many gamers were put off with the first game.
Rockstar on the other hand does not have to release Grand Theft Auto VI anytime soon as Grand Theft Auto V continues to be a powerhouse. Grand Theft Auto V reached number five on the charts beating out lots of other recently released titles. The 10 best selling games can be seen below.
01) Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
02) FIFA 17
03) Battlefield 1
04) Watch Dogs 2
05) Grand Theft Auto V
06) Mafia III
08 ) Final Fantasy XV
09) The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition
10) Forza Horizon 3
