Ten years ago, Microsoft threw its hat into the console gaming world in a big way by launching the original Xbox. Alongside its flagship title, Halo: Combat Evolved and a clear focus on the social aspects of online gaming, the Xbox found its way into many homes upon release.
The console has evolved a ton over these 10 years. From its humble beginnings, to the release of Xbox Live, the Xbox 360, and now in its current state, the Xbox brand has definitely left its mark on the gaming world. Microsoft has a lot to owe to the Halo franchise, as well as the Xbox Live team that ushered in a new era of online gaming experiences with your friends.
To commemorate the event, Microsoft has released Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition. A completely remastered version of the original Halo, with current generation upgrades in the graphics and multiplayer departments. You can also find a free avatar prop on the Xbox Live Marketplace as a token of gratitude from the Xbox team, which you can nab here.
Here’s to another 10 years Xbox, if Digital Distribution don’t make consoles irrelevant before then.
