Halo CE Remake Preview

Halo 2 marked the first time that fans of the franchise could get online and play with each other via Xbox Live, but that didn’t stop players from playing the original Halo CE via system link. 10 years later and the evolution of Xbox Live affords players the luxury of playing through six of the best multiplayer maps from the original.

Microsoft's Xbox Brand owes alot of its success to the Halo franchise.  10 years ago, when Microsoft launched the Halo franchise alongside its new hardware it was hard to imagine that Halo: Combat Evolved would become the cultural phenomenon that it turned into, and spawn four more iterations of the title with more on the way.  This fall, Microsoft is set to release Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition.  Which features a completely remastered campaign, cooperative play via Xbox Live, historic fan favorite multiplayer maps, as well as a new story to uncover along the way.

Halo: Combat Evolved will be the first full fledged offering from 343 Industries, developed in conjunction with Saber Interactive and Certain Affinity, Halo: Combat Evolved will be the first step towards what's coming next from 343 as Microsoft has already announced that a brand new trilogy is in the works for the franchise.

In the last 10 years, gaming has evolved quite a bit, jumping from the standard definition era, to the HD and 3D game worlds that we now enjoy.  Of the biggest upgrades to Halo: Combat Evolved in its anniversary form is the remastering, bringing it up to par with current generation standards in both audio and video fidelity.   If you are sucker for nostalgia you'll also be given the ability to play the game in a "classic" version to relive the campaign how you remember it.

When Halo: Combat Evolved was initially released, Xbox Live was still in production, console gamers weren't accostumed to the cooperative campaigns that we take for granted.  It was done the old fashioned way, locally.  This time around, online cooperative will be a feature that comes packed with the anniversary edition.  So for the first time, you can experience the fight against the Covenant and Flood with friends from across Xbox Live.

Halo 2 marked the first time that fans of the franchise could get online and play with each other via Xbox Live, but that didn't stop players from playing the original Halo CE via system link.  10 years later and the evolution of Xbox Live affords players the luxury of playing through six of the best multiplayer maps from the original.  The multiplayer maps have been remastered with the Halo: Reach engine with graphical inspiration drawn from Halo: CE and Halo 2.  Since the game will be a stand-alone release, you don't need to own Halo: Reach to play the maps, but it was unclear whether it would be a similar offering to what ODST offered with multiplayer and single player being on two seperate discs.  The game will also feature a new Firefight map, as well as 1000 achievement points to unlock.

Probably the best part of it all, aside from Halo CE being one of the best games of all time, is that the campaign will feature terminals like Halo 3.  These terminal will provide behind the gameplay story that have been promised to reveal more about the highly secretive Halo 4.  Abandoning their traditional text format, in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition players will be treated to video in the easter eggs strewn throughout the campaign.

The Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary Edition sounds perfect for the Halo fan that wants to relive the events from the original, and even better for the generation of gamers who may not have played the game that started a revolution in the gaming industry.  More information will be coming down the line at PAX Prime during Halo Fest in Seattle Washington.

Halo: Combat Evolved celebrates its 10 year anniversary on November 15th, which is precisely the day you'll be able to pick up this game.

I really hope that Microsoft will remake Halo 2. Halo 2 is still the best and just make the graphics a little better. Just like ODST this Halo 1 will probably be one of the most popular games this year.

I dont think they are gonna make a pc version because, microsoft is now more interested in making games for console and the original game has the pc version but they are not gonna waste their time on another platform. I am not saying bad about PCs because i have one with HALO CE
and its really cool but as I said ,these days the game producers are more concentrated on the consoles, the only games(the most) that are produced for pc are RPGs and RPS(strategy)games because they a more understandig control. so my summary is that the Halo Ce is not been produced for the Computers (PCs).

So the Halo CE remake is not even being developed by Bungie. And they are changing the Original Story, I thought the point of a remake is to Purely keep the game the same except bring the Graphics and sound to current standard.

Co-Op and Multiplayer are cool, but i thought Halo CE was originally the best on PC so why no love for the PC. I remember playin Halo CE at school on PC, Was only a demo but we could play with anyone else on the Schools LAN & WAN network, Whwnever the teacher left the room, Most of the class would be killing everyone in a TDM.

The story is the same? where did u get that it wasnt? As far as a PC version goes, im sure microsoft will consider since it is MICROSOFT! and 343 industries is making it which worked on reach and make all the dlc now for reach! 343 stands for “343 Guilty Spark” which im sure you know who that is, anyway this is a group of people who have worked for bungie for years so im sure Halo 4 and Halo CE HD will be just as good as the previous ones!

@NJB – the definition of “remastered” is not to rewrite – just as the original Star Wars trilogy was remastered in the late 90s, this will be a graphical and effects remastering.

they haven’t come out with a Halo on PC since halo 2 (which was made for Vista only, a scam to push their new OS)

I don’t think M$ will ever bring Halo to PC again, they want to push the sales of xbox, not PC’s.

Microsoft doesn’t make the PC’s, just the OS and face it, right now their OS sucks. I still love my XP, haven’t checked out 7 since I don’t want to upgrade but regardless.

No more halo on PC, M$ is too stingy.

The reason they make PC versions is to MAKE MORE MONEY. Because PC owners can buy a Halo game without buying the console. And because if they add little features and easter eggs, even some people will buy both. But if Microsoft was really worried about having a PC version, why wouldn’t they release it at the same time the console version comes out? Why don’t you just buy a 360 already, and get all of these games 2 years sooner?

How is it that we are still talking about “Halo” not being developed by Bungie. Bungie sold Halo YEARS ago, so you are right. Bungie is NOT making this one. Funny how everyone brings that up, like Bungie is the only developer who can make great games. Hard reality is, a lot of original Bungie staffers migrated to 343i when MS took over Halo. No the story is NOT changing. In fact, the Anniversary edition runs on the same engine as the original CE. And as far as the PC fans go, I can understand being unhappy about not getting this on your system. It’s a great game. But MS is running a business. They make games so they can make money. I’m not saying that there is not a market for PC games, because there clearly is, but if the PC games selection at any major retailer is indicative of how many units will sell vs. consoles, PC users are definitely in the minority. That plus the need to drive up the demand for the XBOX. Now PS3 and Wii owners who have a PC need to buy an XBOX to play it.

Now that they’re making a Halo:CE remake, there is a deep place in my heart, that 10 years from now, 343i and Microsoft will make a Halo 3 remake, I had some of my best memories of gaming there.

Honestly, i was a little upset at first when i heard bungie wasn’t gonna make halo 4 (There was a rumor that Gearbox was gonna make it), especially if it wasn’t someone who worked with bungie for a while. But then when i heard that 343i was gonna make it, AND that practically half of bungie’s staff left to continue working on the Halo franchise, I felt a hell of a lot better. ( I love 343i for continuing this awesome trilogy when bungie didn’t)
