Singer Grimes recently stood up for Selena Gomez after people started making mean comments about how she looks in her latest music video. The 37-year-old artist got upset when she saw blurry screenshots from Gomez’s In the Dark video spreading online, with people saying horrible things about the 33-year-old star’s appearance.
According to People, one person even said that Gomez must have had plastic surgery and now looks like a monster from the show X Files. These nasty comments pushed Grimes to speak up about how toxic the internet has become and how this kind of behavior hurts everyone who sees it.
Grimes fired back at the bullies by asking them a simple but powerful question. She wanted to know “How do u think little girls feel reading stuff like this about another woman?” The singer also admitted that seeing this kind of hate made her think she “might have to leave” the internet altogether.
This Kind Of Bullying Needs To Stop
Grimes posted her thoughts on X on October 25 and made it clear she was not okay with what people were doing. She said that apart from a few awkward moments that people managed to capture and blow out of proportion, Gomez actually looks beautiful and is one of the prettiest people around.
The musician called out what she described as teenage-style bullying and said that people who body shame others online should get their accounts suspended. She thinks this kind of mean behavior should never be seen as normal or acceptable in our society.
Grimes also asked everyone to think about what it must feel like to be in Gomez’s shoes and deal with strangers attacking your looks online. She wondered why we let people keep hateful posts up just to get attention when it clearly damages everyone’s mental health.
People should remember that Gomez has lupus, and she has talked before about how her health struggles affect her weight. Back in 2019, she opened up about dealing with kidney problems and high blood pressure, which made her more aware of people commenting on her body.
Grimes, who has three kids with X owner Elon Musk, ended her message by saying the internet is extremely unhealthy right now. She warned that letting body shaming become normal is killing our culture and hurting not just celebrities but everyone who reads these kinds of comments. The In the Dark video is Gomez’s first new music since she released an album with her now-husband Benny Blanco earlier this year.
