A server at Texas Roadhouse in Florida tried to add extra charges to a customer’s bill after they ordered too many free bread rolls. Her plan to increase her tip completely failed when the customers paid with cash instead of a card.
According to Bro Bible, the server, Kenzie Taylor, shared a video on TikTok about the unusual situation. She said a table ordered 11 baskets of the restaurant’s free rolls. That’s 44 pieces of bread in total. Taylor thought the amount was too much and wanted to do something about it.
Taylor wondered if she should charge the customers for the bread. She thought about adding around $20 to their bill for the rolls. Her reason was simple – a bigger bill would mean a bigger tip since tips are usually based on a percentage of the total cost.
Texas Roadhouse’s bread policy is causing confusion
Texas Roadhouse is known for giving customers unlimited free rolls when they eat at the restaurant. But many customers say some locations are changing the rules.
A Facebook user from Texas said they were charged extra after putting leftover rolls in a box with their meal. Most Texas Roadhouse locations charge $5 to $8 per dozen for rolls to go, but charging for rolls taken home with leftovers seems like a new change. Similar unexpected restaurant charges have upset diners at other establishments too.
Some locations are also limiting how many baskets customers can get. One Reddit user said their table of three people was only allowed two baskets. When they asked for a third basket, the server ignored them. Later, when they tried to take rolls home, the server said it was against that location’s rules.
Taylor decided to charge the table for just one dozen rolls. But her plan backfired – the table paid in cash. She said she would have made more money in tips if she hadn’t charged them at all.
After the video became popular online, people had different opinions. Some supported Taylor and thought 11 baskets was too much. “girl I would be pissed too, they deserve to get charged since they want to be freaking big back mf’s coming in to eat that much damn bread. And if this offends you, then you are that big back mf,” one person wrote.
But others criticized Taylor for making up her own rules just to earn more money. Restaurant customers have also complained about portion sizes shrinking at popular chains, adding to dining frustrations.
“I have sons. Especially in the teen and young adult stage. They would’ve eaten 11 baskets of bread on their own. If they bought entrees, there’s no reason to have charged them for bread. If they came in and just got bread, then they should be charged. There’s no limit stated,” one person wrote.
