Florida woman forced to fly to New York right before massive snowstorm, and finds herself in an unexpected situation after take off

Worst work trip ever?

A Florida woman’s work trip to New York City became a strange and lonely experience when she ended up as nearly the only passenger on a huge Delta flight flying straight into a major snowstorm. Meg Wieland shared her unusual story on TikTok after her job sent her from sunny Florida right into a massive weather event hitting the East Coast.

According to Bro Bible, her video, which quickly went viral, showed her sitting on the plane in a hoodie. She raised her phone over her seat to show row after row of completely empty seats. The plane looked like a ghost ship, though she mentioned a few other passengers were sitting far back in the rear.

Wieland posted the video on January 24, 2026, just one day before weather experts predicted some coastal areas would get up to 2 feet of snow. She wrote on the video, “When your work decided to send you to New York today…”

The timing could not have been worse for this mandatory trip

The timing was terrible. Wieland wrote in her post, “Great timing! 100% getting stuck here.” She later said she didn’t even pack enough warm clothes, which makes sense since people in Florida don’t usually keep heavy winter jackets around.

Her worry about getting stuck was valid. The storm was huge. New York City saw the most snow it had gotten in about five years. Central Park officially measured around 10 inches of snow, but some nearby areas got buried under up to 18 inches. Similar to a man’s unexpected mansion babysitting discovery, Wieland’s work assignment led to an unusual situation.

Travel systems quickly broke down because of the snow. LaGuardia Airport, one of the city’s major airports, had to close around 1:00 PM on Sunday because conditions were so bad. Before it closed, about 90% of flights to LaGuardia had already been canceled. Airlines had to cancel over 1,000 more flights on Monday.

Now, Wieland’s biggest problem isn’t just dealing with the freezing New York weather. She also needs to figure out how to get back home to Florida. The storm response in New York has been different from other recent events, especially considering how the NYC mayor now communicates directly with Trump.

The unusual situation got a lot of attention online. “Are you a weather lady?” one person asked. Another viewer joked, “Omg I was supposed to be on that flight girl 😭😂 if you get stuck there at least they can’t fire you.” Someone else suggested, “Did you ask if you can get a free upgrade to a business cabin 😂”

Other workers online shared similar stories, showing that sometimes important meetings just happen to line up with terrible weather. One worker gave helpful advice: if you see flight cancellations coming, try renting a car right away. Rental agencies often want to move cars out, and it can help you escape before roads become impossible to use.
