Senator Lindsey Graham found himself at the center of a social media storm after posting a photo of himself with a shotgun, which quickly drew widespread mockery. This came just days after he was photographed at Disney World holding what appeared to be a bubble wand. His attempt to pivot from theme park fun to shooting clays didn’t land as intended, and instead, fueled a fresh wave of online criticism.
All of this happened during a partial government shutdown, which has caused serious hardship for thousands of federal workers. TSA agents have been working without pay, forcing many to call out, which led to hours-long security lines at airports across the country. In one concerning case, an investigator from the National Transportation Safety Board was delayed while trying to reach the scene of a deadly runway crash at LaGuardia Airport.
As the shutdown dragged on, both Democrats and Republicans traded blame, while Congress went home for Easter vacation, leaving the issues unresolved. According to Mediaite, democrats pointed to President Trump and the GOP majority in both chambers, while Republicans argued that Democrats were making unreasonable demands.
Graham’s Disney trip and shotgun photo backfired badly during the shutdown
Senator Graham was spotted at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, having breakfast with Mickey Mouse and walking through Fantasyland while carrying what many identified as a child’s bubble wand toy. One report noted, “Lindsey Graham was ineffective talking his colleagues into keeping the government open, but he had a great convo with Mickey Mouse Sunday… at Disney World!!!” Another stated, “Lindsey Graham lives it up at Disney World during the partial government shutdown!”
When asked about the trip, Graham said he had traveled to South Florida to meet with Trump administration officials before heading to Orlando to meet friends. He defended himself, saying, “I voted 7 times to fully fund the government. Call a Democrat.” Graham has also recently drawn attention for cheering Iran’s supreme leader strike with no follow-up plan, which raised serious questions about his foreign policy positions.
Then on Monday, Graham posted a new photo from South Carolina showing him holding a shotgun, ready to shoot clays. He captioned it, “Spent some time breaking clays in Edgefield County today. Doesn’t get much better than that.” Rather than changing the conversation, the photo made things worse.
The internet responded quickly with memes and sarcastic comments. One user said it was like “Lindsey Graham just posted this trying to appear masculine after he was photographed alone at Disney World with a bubble wand.” Another said, “I don’t know who posts for this account. But you should be a comedian. This post is hilarious.” This is part of a broader pattern, as Graham facing fire from GOP colleagues has become an increasingly common occurrence.
The backlash was overwhelming. One comment read, “Maybe you should spend some time working and representing your actual constituents you weirdo.” Another stated, “You know what’s better than shooting clays and Disney World? Fulfilling your obligation to the people and passing the SAVE America Act. Go do your damn job, Senator.”
