Florida diner checks her bill at Señor Frog’s, then accuses server of trying to get a second 20% tip

Sara Nobles, a content creator on TikTok, recently ran into a situation with her bill at Señor Frog’s in Pensacola Beach, Florida. Her experience, which she shared in a video that has now racked up over 89,000 views, has sparked a real conversation about whether some restaurants are trying to sneakily collect double tips from unsuspecting customers.

As reported by BroBible, the situation began when Nobles and a companion decided to stop by the famous boardwalk in Pensacola. They weren’t looking for a full meal, so they just grabbed a couple of drinks at Señor Frog’s. When the bill arrived for those two drinks, the server reportedly pointed out that a 20% service fee was already included. She wasn’t sure if that fee was intended to be the gratuity or if it was just an extra charge, so she decided to get up and clarify the situation.

Nobles approached the staff member to get some answers. She recounted the interaction by saying, “I get up, and I said, ‘Um, hey, I just wanna check, does that 20% service fee go to you?’ And she was like, ‘Um, yes.’ And she did not want to answer me.” 

The server reportedly walked away

Nobles didn’t stop there. She pushed further to understand why the server hadn’t clearly identified the fee as a gratuity, especially since the server then reportedly suggested that they could still leave an additional tip on top of that.

This is where things get pretty frustrating. Nobles explained her reaction to the server, saying, “I’m like, “OK, you are misleading because you just said it is a service fee… She’s about to leave you a $20 … So, you are literally trying to double tip.” 

According to Nobles, the server reportedly tried to claim that the fee wasn’t optional, but that didn’t address the core issue of how the fee was being presented. Nobles recalled telling her, “OK, well then you’re not telling people that you are getting that service fee as your tip. So now she’s about to tip you 20%, so you’re getting double tipped.” After that exchange, she claims the server simply walked away, leaving the conversation unfinished.

The reaction online was swift and pretty divided. Many people in the comments section felt that the server was being intentionally deceptive by not being upfront about the service fee. One viewer noted, “So instead of it being called a tip, they’re calling [it] a service fee interesting.” Nobles agreed with that sentiment, replying, “Glad you get it… this is the point I’m [making] and some people just don’t get that…”

Some commenters took a much firmer stance on how to handle these situations in the future. One person suggested, “Any added fees on ANY check IS my tip everyone should just stop tipping all together.”
