The Wii U is a “Real Console”

The Wii U has been going through a rough patch as of late. With nothing on the software front urging would-be buyers to purchase the console, sales have been dwindling for Nintendo’s latest. However, GameStop CEO J. Paul Raines believes that the Wii U is here to stay, and that software will drive console sales going forward.

In a recent interview with Games Industry, Raines explains the recent disappointing sales for the console.

“This industry has a lot of cynicism and people love to say stuff isn’t going to work, but we think the Wii U is a real console that’s been disappointing for a couple months, but we think there’s more there when the first-party titles come out. Nintendo’s got a few up their sleeve”

Come the holiday season, Nintendo should have a lineup of titles to compete with next-gen consoles from Sony and Microsoft. These first party titles that Raines points to are set to arrive this fall, and these should drive more consumers to the retailer for the console. While waiting for the new software, Nintendo is making sure that the system user-interface is up to snuff. The company recently announced that it load times for the Wii U would be decreasing, in an update slated for later this month.
